Game changer Ram Charan film Review, This is the debut film of director "Shankar Shanmugham" in Telugu language.
These days Indian (mainstream) cinema is probably going through its worst phase. However, this is a matter of debate. In the last 5 years, we have seen many great filmmakers fail in storytelling. The new entry in this series is Shankar Shanmugham. This was expected from 'Indian 2' itself. But his new release 'Game Changer' is like the next bad film in his list. The filmmaker whose box office record was 100 percent before 2024. Now he is not even able to make his kind of cinema. This does not mean that 'Game Changer' is completely rubbish i.e. it is an 'Indian 2' type film. It is not a film of Shankar's stature.
After making 13-14 blockbuster Tamil and Hindi films in the last 22 years, Shankar has made his Telugu debut with 'Game Changer'. Shankar has a pattern. The hero of his films is not born but is made from among the common people. His issues have also always been common. That is why people could easily connect with him. With 'Game Changer', Shankar has changed his game a bit. The pattern remained the same, only this time his hero is an IAS. He is still doing what his previous heroes have been doing. Trying every possible way for the welfare of the people. But now all this has started to seem very boring and repetitive. Why? Let me tell you.

Shankar ji used all the tried and tested formulas in 'Game Changer'. He wanted to make the kind of film for which he is known and loved. People watch films because of old memories and familiar set-ups. But he has failed to make such a film in 'Game Changer'. The reason for this is that Shankar did not reinvent himself. This is a problem that more or less all the filmmakers of his era are facing. Mani Ratnam is an exception to this. You will see many technically advanced things in this film of Shankar. For example, the way he has shot the songs. From camera to editing, everything has been done in a new way. Only the story and the way of telling it is the same old.
There is a 20-25 minute flashback sequence in 'Game Changer'. This is the only part of the film where you can see Shankar's influence. Ram Charan and Anjali's acting, the set-up of that era, emotions. Here you get all the things for which you have gone to watch this film. It shows the story of a man named Appanna, who is the leader of his village. But due to stuttering, he has difficulty in giving speeches. Apart from this, Shankar has also used some references from his previous films. For example, in a scene of the film, Ram's character says -
"I have heard about the Chief Minister for a day before. But I am hearing about the Chief Minister for an hour for the first time." Which is a reference to 'Mudhalvan' and 'Nayak'. Apart from this, SJ Surya, who plays the villain of the film, keeps moving his hands and fingers on his bald head like 'Shivaji - The Boss'. In 'Game Changer', Ram Charan plays an IAS officer named Ram Madhav. There is nothing in this character except heroism. Therefore, Ram Charan would not have had any special difficulty in playing it. Yes, in the flashback sequence of the film, you get to see his talent as an actor. SJ Suryah has played the role of Chief Minister Suryakant's son and the villain of the film, Bobbili Moppidevi, very well. You will like Surya's work. Because he brings a kind of unpredictability to his character. Which looks fresh to watch. Kiara Advani has very little screen time. Comedian Sunil has done the same here as he has been doing for so many years. Other actors like Jayaram, Samuthirakani and Vennela Kishore have not been given anything to do.
Conclusion
In short, 'Game Changer' never lives up to its name, which can be considered game changing, overall this film does what hundreds of mainstream political films have done before it. Disappointed.
